Horseshoe Bay, Texas-based Westway Custom Homes is a builder in the Texas Hill Country.
Situated on Lake Lyndon B. Johnson and the south branch of the Colorado River, Horseshoe Bay and its surrounding area is known for golfing, water sports, wineries and the beauty of its countryside.
It is the perfect place to escape to for a weekend getaway, purchase a vacation home and to retire. “A lot of people build their second homes here,” says Cindy Classen, vice president of Westway Custom Builders. “We’re seeing a lot of activity and a continuing, growing market in Horseshoe Bay, especially with the baby boomers retiring.”
Owned by Cindy and her husband, Tom Classen, Horseshoe Bay, Texas-based Westway Custom Homes is a premier builder in the Texas Hill Country, a geographic region of Central and South Texas forming the southeast part of the Edwards Plateau.
Although the Classens purchased the company in 2013, Tom Classen grew up in a family of homebuilders. In the 1980s, he started a construction firm that specialized in commercial and residential remodeling in Dallas. Later, he accepted a job as vice president of development for Desert Mountain Club, a private country club in Scottsdale, Ariz. – a position he held for 14 years.
“He built a few award-winning club houses for the six-course country club,” Classen says, adding that the couple returned to Texas in 2012 when Tom was offered a position as vice president of construction for Horseshoe Bay Resort before buying Westway Custom Builders.
Today, Cindy and Tom operate the company with help from their two sons – Dillon and Weston – who serve as project managers.
Attention to Detail
Westway Custom Builders prides itself on building homes with superior craftsmanship, attention to detail and relentless pursuit of total customer satisfaction. Its homes range in price between $800,000 and $3 million.
Most of them are built on Lake Lyndon B. Johnson and Horseshoe Bay Resort’s four golf courses. One of Westway Custom Builders’ recently completed projects, which was completed this summer, is a luxury home on Matern Court on Lake Lyndon B. Johnson. The spectacular home – which sits on open water in the upscale gated subdivision of Matern Island – features more than 7,000 square feet of space with four bedrooms and five and half baths.
“It’s probably one of the larger homes we’ve built,” Classen says. “And I think it’s exceptional from an architectural standpoint.”
A Mediterranean-style home, the two-story structure features a lot of cut stone on both the outside and inside. A boat dock is located underneath the home. It also features greenhouse and a swimming pool with a swim up bar.
Inside of the home, Westway Custom Builders built a double-sided fireplace in the great room, a winding staircase and a wine wall.
“We’re seeing a trend going towards the transitional and contemporary-style homes instead of the traditional hill country homes,” Classen says. “Our clients are taking full advantage of their lot investment, capturing lake and high elevation views with expansive great rooms and floor to ceiling glass walls.”
Tom Classen’s passion to build a quality, unique custom home with the utmost attention to detail is one of the reasons for Westway Custom Homes becoming a premier builder in Horseshoe Bay and the Texas Hill Country.
With the Classen team living and having its offices in Horseshoe Bay, the company’s commitment to the community has never been stronger.
